Sabbatical Journeys

It took me a while to get here, and I had to go through many forms of precipitation, but I am on the East Coast on Sabbatical.
I will be heading to Toronto for the Union of Reform Judaism’s Biennial Convention – I hope to see many of you there.
Perhaps all journeys from one emotional state – working as a congregational rabbi – to another – working on Sabbatical as a hopeful author and student – require some strong effort.
My route from Stateline, Nevada, overlooking Carson Valley, to Dutchess County, New York, took me through…
South Lake Tahoe and Spooner Summit – light snow on the roads – Wednesday morning, October 28
Route I-80 from Reno, Nevada, through Salt Lake City, Utah – windy – Wednesday afternoon, October 28
Route I-80 from Salt Lake City, Utah into Western Wyoming – windy, light to heavy snow – eventually had to turn around to stay at a Days Inn in Rock Springs, WY – Wednesday evening, October 28. Move from PDT to MDT.
Route I-80 into Central Wyoming – windy, light snow, stopped because I-80 was closed, returned to Rawlins to head North on back roads to Casper, WY, and then on I-25 to Buffalo, WY, where I went East again on I-90. Snow covered roads most of the way, even on I-25. Looked good for a while on I-90 East, then had to quit because of blowing snow in South Dakota – spent the night in Wall, SD. Thursday, October 29.
Route I-90 East through South Dakota – raining, blowing, but mostly moving quickly, a little snow on the road, Friday morning, October 30 – move from MDT to CDT.
Route I-90 East from Sioux Falls, SD into Minnesota – light rain, moving quickly, head north on I-34 into Minneapolis for dinner with friends – take a nice 2 hour break with them, and then keep on driving…
Route I-94 East from Minneapolis/St. Paul through Wisconsin and into Chicago, meet up with I-90 and eventually I-80 along the way – I-80 through Indiana, CDT to EDT, Ohio, and Pennsylvania to I-84, into New York, to the Taconic, and then up into Dutchess county. Arrive 3pm EDT, Saturday, October 31 - drove through the night. Rain off and on along most of the way, but it beat the snow!
Finally met up with family in NYC Saturday, October 31, around 6:30pm – Halloween next year!
